about the album
The Chill Room is 12 original tunes produced through creativity, much trial and error, and a lot of spent time and hard work. Our compositions are best described as influenced by classic jazz ballads, swing tunes and waltzes, and then married with blues, rock and even a little ‘70s funk and soul.
That being said, it’s hard to define exactly what we were trying to create with this album other than to say we were trying to capture moments of emotion and various experiences. Nighttime excursions in New York, a spring walk with a companion, a quiet night of contemplation alongside a bottle of Johnny Walker Black, and even haunting chaos from the past inspired by Bruce Catton’s account of the Battle of Antietam.
Glass Cannon itself is a product of the excellent jazz program at the University of Missouri. Somehow, out of a revolving group of musicians changing each semester, we settled on a lineup of guys who just liked playing together. That single common thread encouraged us to start writing our own material. Once we had a few compositions down, someone had the brilliant idea to start working on an album. I don’t think anyone was really sure how we would get there, or had a sense of how many hundreds of hours of work it would take writing, practicing, recording, re-recording and mixing. So, thanks in great part to the teachings of Dr. Leibinger and Dr. White, the talents of Bruce and Adam at Mansion Studio, Jonathan at Dark Egg Studio, as well as the support of family and friends (and not to mention three years worth of work from us guys), we finally present to you The Chill Room.
